Build the total before dividing
List the product cost, domestic delivery, selected services, packing, international freight, payment costs and any applicable destination charges. Use one reporting currency and save the conversion rate and date. Mark uncertain amounts as estimates.
For a business decision, keep tax treatment separate from the freight arithmetic. A website calculator can organise the numbers you enter; it cannot determine your tax obligations or whether a tax is recoverable in your situation.
Use the right denominator
Cost per ordered unit divides the total by all units purchased. Cost per usable unit divides it by the units that meet your actual needs. Both figures can be useful, but they answer different questions.
Illustrative arithmetic only: a batch costing 600 currency units with 20 usable items costs 30 per usable item. If only 15 meet your requirements, the same outlay is 40 per usable item. These are invented teaching numbers, not a seller price, freight estimate or assumed defect rate.
For personal buying, an item in the wrong size may be unusable even if it has no manufacturing defect. For commercial planning, distinguish usable inventory from units already sold. Unsold stock still ties up money.
Do not scale a parcel quote into a bulk quote
A 3kg parcel example cannot establish the price for several cartons. Ask for actual carton counts, dimensions and gross weights, then obtain an eligible route quote for that shipment.
Sugargoo's shipping guidance distinguishes estimated costs from the final packed result. That distinction matters even more when changing quantity changes the packaging. Keep the retail and wholesale scenarios side by side with their own freight assumptions.

Decide how much uncertainty you can carry
A useful decision sheet has three cases: the intended order, a smaller sample order and a case with higher freight or fewer usable items. Change only the assumptions you are testing so you can see what causes the difference.
Include the time between payment and having usable goods, and the practical work of checking, storing and distributing them. If a larger order only looks attractive when every unknown goes perfectly, resolve the largest unknown first.
The best next step may be a measured sample, a clearer specification or a carton quote. Each can improve the decision before a bulk payment is made.
