For a small personal order, start with an offer that makes the exact option and size easy to verify. For repeated items, examine quantity tiers and whether variants can be combined. In either case, compare the complete cost and the questions the seller can answer before deciding which link to submit.
Compare offers using one purchase brief
Write a neutral requirement before looking at platform labels: the product type, measurements or dimensions, required quantity, selected colour, important material claims and what evidence you need. Send the same questions to each candidate. Otherwise you may compare a low-detail listing with a better-documented option and mistake the difference for a platform-wide price advantage.
For a clothing example, “twenty plain tops in these four size-and-colour combinations” is more useful than “cheap wholesale clothing.” The former can be priced and checked. The latter leaves different sellers free to offer different products.
| Buying need | Question that decides the comparison |
|---|---|
| One item for personal use | Is the selected option purchasable at one unit, with a usable size chart? |
| A mixed-size batch | Does the exact combination meet the minimum and quoted price tier? |
| A community find | Does the current seller listing still match the saved product reference? |
| A repeat order | Can the seller confirm the same specification and current availability? |
| An unfamiliar category | Can the required inspection and shipment be supported? |
What the platform label can tell you
1688 is associated with domestic wholesale sourcing, but that does not mean every listing is factory-direct, that every seller requires a large order, or that a one-piece purchase is impossible. The actual offer must establish those details. For Taobao and Weidian candidates, apply the same discipline: ask what is being sold by this seller at this quantity.
Use the original marketplace URL as the source reference even when you discover it through a spreadsheet, album or community discussion. Discovery context helps explain why you found the item; it does not replace the agreement with the seller.
Alibaba describes Taobao as a consumer retail platform and 1688 as a domestic wholesale marketplace serving businesses and, increasingly, consumers. Weidian’s own service agreement separates its platform role from independent sellers. These descriptions help explain the shopping context; none establishes the quality, authorization, minimum quantity or reliability of a particular offer.

Three situations that lead to different decisions
For one sweatshirt, a clear measurement chart and a purchasable single-unit option may matter more than a discount that requires twenty pieces. Include domestic freight before comparing the two product-side totals.
For a small batch of accessories, a tiered offer may fit well if it accepts your quantity mix and provides the needed specification. Calculate the commitment at that tier, ask about substitutions and define how counts or visible defects will be checked.
For a sneaker discovered in a community post, start by identifying the exact seller option. A similar photograph on another marketplace is a separate candidate until the relevant specifications are confirmed. None of these examples names a winning marketplace for every buyer.
A failed import does not settle which platform is better
Open the source first. If it is unavailable, changed or too incomplete to specify, find another candidate or ask the seller for a current offer. If the original information is clear but the agent import does not reproduce it, check the supported manual-order process and provide the details explicitly.
Do not use manual entry to disguise a product or bypass a warning. The operational question is whether the provider can purchase that exact item and ship it under the intended conditions, not whether a form can be made to accept some text.
The official Weidian-link guide identifies incomplete links and removed products as possible causes of an unsuccessful import. Reopen the original listing and use its full item URL before asking about manual entry. Keep the seller’s specification alongside the link so a successful import can be checked against the intended offer.

Keep the comparison after you buy
Retain the selected specification, quantity breakdown and evidence that determined the choice. When the order reaches the warehouse, compare it with that brief rather than with a different seller’s attractive photograph.
If you later repeat the order, request a fresh price and availability check. A successful earlier sample is useful context, but it does not prove unchanged stock or production. Keeping the earlier agreement makes the next conversation more precise without turning it into a guarantee.
